A FEW YEARS AGO I WAS ON A FLIGHT FROM SAN FRANCISCO TO SEATTLE. IN THE WINDOW AND CENTER SEATS WERE TWO RATHER LARGE PEOPLE THAT I ASSUMED WERE HUSBAND AND WIFE. THEY HAD THROWN UP THE ARM RESTS AND LITERALLY LEFT ME WITH ABOUT ½ OF MY AISLE SEAT! I IMAGINED THAT IF THE PLANE WAS FULL I WOULD HAVE BEEN LEFT BEHIND IN S.F. AS THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD HAVE POSSIBLY FIT IN WHAT REMAINED OF MY SEAT.
PERHAPS HAD THESE TWO NEVER FLOWN BEFORE THEY WOULD HAVE HAD A LEGITIMATE EXCUSE BUT THEY WERE OLDER THAN ME AND SO NOT VERY LIKELY…IN THAT CASE THREE THINGS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED; AT LEAST ONE OF THEM SHOULD HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO GET OFF THE PLANE SO I COULD HAVE HAD MY FULL SEAT, OR THEY SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED 3 COACH SEATS TOGETHER OR TWO FIRST CLASS SEATS.

SO BARRISTA SHULTZ IS LOOKING TO BECOME PRESIDENT SHULTZ. WHEN THE ODDS ARE EVENLY SPLIT BETWEEN THE 2 FAVORITES (LEFT WING AND RIGHT WING) BET ON THE CENTRIST LONG SHOT!

American citizens traveling to North Korea, Iran, Syria. Once they are “detained” their relatives are begging the State Department or the President to do whatever it takes to get them back.
Not only is this a huge distraction for our strategic diplomacy objectives but it puts our citizens who are smart enough to stay at home at an increased potential risk! Especially when money changes hands!

They say that the 3rd generation is born with a silver spoon in their mouth. In that case the first generation is the greatest generation, this is the generation that did a great job of killing both Germans and Japanese. They would come home from the war to spawn the 2nd generation currently known as the baby boomer generation. The Boomers gave birth to latch key kids who spent weekends visiting Dad’s house. No wonder then that this 3rd generation has become the Entitled Generation. Entitled to be on the honor roll and with trunk loads of trophies for coming in last place! What will we be calling the 4th generation? The burger and mattress flipper generation!

In spite of all the scare tactics we are not going to turn the clocks all the way back on Roe versus Wade although there may be some limited changes to it around the margins.
Apparently Jane Roe wanted abortion to be available whenever and wherever a woman wanted one. The all-male Supremes’ would vote 7-2 to allow abortion up to fetal viability.
What I frankly don’t understand then is why after viability it is still called a fetus instead of a baby. Calling it a baby would of course imply that it has legal rights and why shouldn’t it?

NOTE: The new New York abortion law apparently means that the baby/fetus can be aborted right up to the day of its birth!

Remember during the trial of the century when polls showed that most black people thought that OJ was innocent? You wonder what the polls would say about the juice today. Having retired last year from royal duties Prince Philip should have already retired from driving as well. Some years ago I was injured in a car accident that was caused by an 87 year old lady with coke bottle eye glasses and wearing two hearing aids! Her driving license had just been renewed for another four years.
My father in law was a lousy driver at 65 but continued to drive into his 90’s. His kids never asked him to stop! Yes I understand that people want to maintain their independence but this is pure lunacy! If the family can’t or won’t stop them from driving then the State needs to step in to protect the rights of those of us who stand to be injured or killed….
If the bonnie prince insists on driving then let him drive a Tesla!

The world is undergoing another leadership change with power shifting from the West to the East. The better class of people in the West are moving to take control over their governments. The last time this happened you had the better class of the “peace in our time” crowd in UK and the American Firster folks in the USA. Had these two groups moved against Fascism and Herr Hitler sooner perhaps just 6 dead Nazi’s as opposed to 60 million dead. One hopes that the better class does a better job* this time around. As for the worser class they have no one to blame but themselves had they done a better job since the end of WWII maybe we would not have found ourselves in this kind of boat!

Besides building pyramids and piles of debt we are burying ourselves under tons of lawsuits! The fact is we are using the legal system in much the same way the French used the guillotine during their revolution. This isn’t to say that the first 200 Frenchman didn’t have it coming to them, it’s the next 20,000 “off with their heads” that the mob demanded that is more difficult to justify! With the emergence of the social media mob the legal environment in the USA will become increasingly more challenging. It is one thing to drink justice from a glass, something else to drink it from the bottom of the Potomac. Unfortunately as 40% of Congress are lawyers you should expect no help from this quarter anytime soon…

Los Angeles teachers are on strike for more money and less pupils! So less work for more pay the standard union mantra. Very likely the democratically controlled city will end up throwing more good money after bad there. Would be interesting to see in those countries that are beating the USA in education; how many pupils they have, how many days they go to school and how much the teachers are paid as compared to teachers in LA.
The Teachers Union want kids to start earlier which of course requires hiring more teachers as opposed to extending the school year which doesn’t. And you do have to ask yourself if older kids retain things better than younger ones!

Note la la teachers have settled for more money and less work!!!!

DURING THE CIVIL WAR THE SOUTH HAD EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO END SLAVERY. BUT WITH THE POLITICAL COMPROMISE OF 1877 SOUTHERN WHITE MEN WOULD WIN THE PEACE! IN AN EFFORT TO REINFORCE THIS MESSAGE WAR MEMORIALS SPRUNG UP IN MANY PUBLIC PLACES.

Both are angry but one is old and one is young. One is right and one is left. One is richer and one is poorer. One’s fortunes have come down while the other ones fortunes are coming up. As power shifts to the left one may get even angrier while the other one may get even happier!
How this increasing political and racial divide plays out over time remains to be seem, but in the next few decades people of color will be in the majority* in the USA. Will be interesting then to see how our political leaders thread this needle so as to minimize any racial conflict!

* Reagan promised immigration amnesty to 1 million that in the end turned into 3 million. Assuming 10 million undocumented illegals today expect 30 million new USA citizens when and if we “fix” our broken immigration system!

UNLESS WE ARE IN A STATE OF WAR THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NEVER BECOME THE SENIOR PARTNER FOR ANY ONES INCOME. BUT YEAH THE RICH DO NEED TO PAY MORE!

As a first generation American on my German paternal side, I am grateful that America took them in as my father would have likely ended up frozen to death in a snowbank outside of Moscow. My grandfather who came here legally, was a tool and die maker which was a skill that was very much needed during the War.
With each new immigrant class America has reinvented itself and I am personally very much encouraged by what I am seeing from our new Asian immigrant population. But we also need to remember that we have a black population that has never fully benefited from being American. After Centuries of both physical and social enslavement we need to give these Americans citizens preference over those who are not and wish to become one….

After World War II America’s track record in Asia was extremely problematic. For starters in China, the USA backed the wrong warlord. This would result in our “losing” China, which in turn would provoke our involvement in Korea, ending in a very bloody tie. JFK would then commit the USA to fighting in Vietnam by effectively “green lighting” the assassination of President Diem. Not to be outdone LBJ would then hamstring the military’s ability to fight ending in a humiliating defeat for the US. As China continues to emerge the reunification of its country will become an increasing pinch point for the West. To a lesser extent the reunification of Korea could minimize any potential pinch points in Asia as well.   

 

           

French President Macron is correct that the EU needs their own national military! Unfortunately for Macron the EU is up to their eyeballs in debt and withdrawing from their international military (NATO) would require a nationalistic political will that does not exist. The EU can do one or the other, it can’t do both. Eventually the USA will come to this same conclusion. America can either defend itself in the East or the West but not both. Over time the US will continue to move its increasingly limited military assets to the Pacific. Ironically the sooner the EU embraces military nationalism the safer it will make the world for Democracy!

THE NEED TO BE THE FIRST WITH THE SCOOP IS DRIVING THE MARKET PLACE AND STORIES THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA WOULDN’T HAVE TOUCHED IN THE PAST ARE NOW APPEARING ALMOST EVERYWHERE.
AS A RESULT LITTLE ATTENTION AND EVEN LESS RESOURCES ARE BEING INVESTED INTO PUTTING THEM INTO ANY KIND OF OVERALL CONTEXT. DOING THAT OF COURSE COULD NOT ONLY IMPACT ON BEING FIRST TO MARKET BUT MIGHT ALSO EFFECT THE AMOUNT OF BLOOD THAT APPEARS IN THE STORY! BY THE TIME THE OTHER HALF OF THE STORY GETS OUT (IF THERE IS ONE AND IT DOES GET OUT) THE HARM HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE.

In 1933 the American people came to their senses and repealed the 18th amendment, which would once again allow the consumption of alcohol in the USA.
However in 1914 Congress had passed the Harrison Act which would only allowed doctors to dispense drugs. No longer able to buy and self-medicate addicts went to doctors who would treat them for their addiction. But in 1919 the Supreme Court ruled that drug addiction was not a disease and doctors could no longer do that and the illegal drug trade began to flourish!
Now unfortunately just saying no wasn’t ever going to work and the legalization of marijuana is a good first step. That is of course as long as all of the tax revenue raised from its sale is going to be spent on the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction. Otherwise all we’ve done is to make the problem even more unwinnable!

In the drive to promote equality between the sexes it makes you wonder if the physically weaker sex are putting themselves in increasingly more dangerous situations.
Or perhaps it has nothing to do with this and it’s just naiveté on the part of some. But it does seem like we are hearing more god awful stories about young ladies who were jogging alone, or staying alone in a third world country or hiking alone in the wilderness. Yes this can and does happen to the physically stronger sex as well but either happens less or gets less media attention.
Sure everyone should be able to jog or hike or live anywhere they wish but that is still not the world we live in! As the father of two very smart and successful daughters I hope they take note of this and please be careful out there!

I have always found the golden globes to be aptly named! In general I’m supportive of the me too movement but do think that some ladies need to give the horny young guys and dirty old men more of a fighting chance to behave!
Yes, there needs to be zero tolerance for sexual assault but I can’t help but think that in some cases harassment is being conflated as assault. As for sexual harassment, I really need to know where harassment ends and free speech begins!

THE WEST IS IN DECLINE WHILE THE EAST IS ON THE RISE. THE BETTER CLASS OF PEOPLE WILL TELL YOU THAT BY THE TIME CHINA BECOMES THE NEXT WORLD LEADER THEY WILL BE A DEMOCRACY. MAYBE THEY WILL AND MAYBE THEY WON’T. ON THE OTHER HAND WILL THE WEST BE MORE DEMOCRATIC OR MORE DICATORIAL? REMEMBER BOTH LENIN AND HITLER WERE DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED. WHAT THE FUTURE WILL BE FOR ONE OR THE OTHER IN EITHER THE EAST OR WEST REMAINS TO BE SEEM. BUT VERY LIKELY THIS WILL BE DRIVEN BY HOW FAST AND HOW HARD THE DECLINE IS IN THE WEST!

In the 19^th Century, Europe lead by the British Empire was on first base. In the 20^th Century, America lead by the US was on first base. In the 21st Century, Asia lead by China will be on first base. As the USA moves to second base WHAT kind of global role it plays remains to be seen but one assumes that it will be increasingly a Pacific driven strategy. As for who will be on 3^RD base during the Chinese Century will it be the EU or will it be Russia?

Any future economic collapse in the US will drive the usual guns versus butter political debate. Only this time around we will have a much higher percentage of our population (60%) who will be largely dependent on government largesse. For the military this debate is made even more challenging given its conversion from a citizen soldier to a professional soldier. This disconnection of the armed forces from the vast majority of Americans who did not serve will make it even more likely that any future political decision will favor passing the fat* over passing the ammo!      

*If the voter’s choice comes down to Grandma living on her own (butter) or Grandma living in their basement (guns) then bring on the cholesterol

I don’t believe that Trump will run for re-election and I am not even sure that he will still be President by then anyway!
But that said it is increasingly looking like the democrats will be having their own primary version in 2020 that the republicans had in 2016. Expect 20 plus democratic candidates waving tons of red meat at the extreme left wing. But unlike 2016 the democrat super delegates who have acted as a check against mob rule in the party are now forced to sit on the side lines for the first delegate vote count at the 2020 convention.
Driven by the social media mob expect a woman to emerge as the eventual nominee maybe even a woman who is a minority (depending on what your definition of minority “is”)

The Prohibition of Booze would begin as a very transparent political process with the Woman’s Temperance League calling for a ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol.
Unfortunately for the ladies, America was a country of beer swilling Germans, whiskey sipping Irishmen and wine slurping Italians and there was no way they were going to give up their favorite pastime!
So the anti-liquor wolves strapped on their sheep’s clothing and became a less transparent political process by morphing into the anti-saloon league. In other words we’re not going to take all of your booze away only your saloon. That worked wonders for the ladies who would then take off their sheep’s clothing and close not only the saloons but all of America’s breweries, wineries and distillers as well.
This social engineering effort would not only end as an abject failure but created long term organized crime problems for the US. The most important lesson from all of this is that while a political process may start as a completely transparent process they don’t always end that way! In the increasingly partisan environment we live in you should expect to see more of this!

HAVING SEEN ONE OF THESE I UNDERSTAND THAT SPACE TRAVEL IS POSSIBLE. BUT THE USA’S MANNED MISSION TO THE MOON WAS A HUGELY EXPENSIVE FEEL GOOD PR PROGRAM. WE COULD HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THIS WITH AN UNMANNED EFFORT AT FAR LESS COST AND RISK. HAVING DONE THIS A FEW TIMES THE COUNTRY LOST COMPLETE INTEREST AND WE NEVER WENT BACK!
NASA WOULD THEN MOVE ON TO THE SPACE SHUTTLE WHICH NEVER CAME CLOSE TO LIVING UP TO NASA’S PROMISES AND WENT DOWN IN FLAMES IN ANOTHER FEEL GOOD TEACHER IN SPACE PR EFFORT. NOT ONLY SHOULD IT NOT HAVE BEEN LAUNCHED ON THE DAY IT WAS BUT IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE INCLUDED A CIVILIAN!
NASA IS NOW PITCHING AN EVEN MORE RIDICULOUS MANNED MISSION TO MARS! I THINK THE UNMANNED STUFF NASA IS DOING IS MONEY BETTER SPENT.

I WAS IN SOUTH BOSTON ON THE FIRST DAY OF FORCED BUSING AND IT WAS AN ARMED CAMP! THIS WAS AN EFFORT TO INTEGRATE SOUTH BOSTON HIGH SCHOOL, MANDATED BY FEDERAL JUDGE GARRITY AND SUPPORTED BY TEDDY (BUS THE KENNEDY KIDS) KENNEDY AND THE BOSTON (SOMEONE IS SHOOTING AT THE BUILDING) GLOBE.
WHAT GARRITY, KENNEDY AND THE GLOBE COULDN’T DO WAS TO FORCE THE IRISH TO CONTINUE TO LIVE IN SOUTH BOSTON. THE END RESULT HAD A LONG TERM NEGATIVE IMPACT ON INTEGRATING THE CITY AS THE WHITE NATIVES MOVED TO THE SUBURBS.
SO WHAT I WANT THE INCREASINGLY PARTISAN FOLKS ON BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT TO KNOW IF THEY KEEP THIS UP IS SOMETHING JAMES GARNER ONCE SAID IN A MOVIE “BASICALLY I’M ON MY WAY TO AUSTRALIA!”

The Civil War initially was about preserving the union and with the issuance of the emancipation proclamation then became a war to end slavery. With the assassination of Lincoln the radical republicans would then attempt to impose equality on the South. This effort would end with the presidential election of Rutherford B. Hayes. Jim Crow would then impose a social enslavement on our black citizens. These citizens have never been fully integrated into our society and unfortunately the millions of illegal immigrant are impacting on our ability to accomplish this as much and as fast as possible.

Western style socialist democracies are using increasing quantities of debt to sustain their citizen’s standard of living. In the USA we are running a huge deficit with Medicare health costs and even the interest payments on our national debt* could outstrip Medicare debt. If the West fails to fix this you should expect a global economic collapse within the next decade. This will be a long term depression as the West will be unable to borrow its way out of it as it did with the Great Recession of 2008. Banks and others that were saved by TARP will fail this time around exacerbating and accelerating this crash. Asia lead by China will then become the Economic world leader and as they say “He who has the gold rules”.  

* The almost 3 trillion dollar Social Security surplus is being applied against the national debt and as that is paid out to retirees our debt will increase accordingly!

Beginning this year, Social Security will pay out more money from their trust fund than they will take in to the fund. Unless things change they will deplete this fund by 2034. What that means for people born after 1968 is that every single dollar YOU have put into Social Security for YOUR retirement will have been given to someone else*. Perhaps another reason why there is a pyramid on the US dollar….

From the very first day of this country the 5th estate took a very partisan position favoring the Agrarian, Pro-French, and States Right political camp over the Mercantile, Pro-English, and Central Government camp. In the short term this was very helpful for the Jeffersonian (left) side in prevailing over the Hamiltonian (right) side. This would increasingly change after the Civil War when both big government and big business would emerge.
Today the left continues to enjoy a huge main stream media advantage over the right and in the age of the internet that advantage has only increased. The creation of the social media mob will increasingly drive the USA from Socialism towards Marxism!

During the American Revolution the founding fathers watched the mob switch sides depending on which army was encamped nearby! Over the last 200 years we have stripped some of those republican protections away in an effort to become more democratic.
Increasingly today we are hearing calls to dismantle the Electoral College, to eliminate the US Senate and to stack or impose term limits on the Supreme Court! There are always two edges to every sword and while doing these things may make us more democratic the downside is that it can also empower the mob!
Remember the Democratic French Revolution decapitated the King only to eventually give rise to an even more powerful Emperor!

IF YOU DROP TACTICAL AND STRATEGIC FROGS INTO A POT OF HOT WATER THEY WILL BOTH RECOGNIZE THE THREAT AND JUMP OUT. BUT IF YOU DROP BOTH INTO A POT OF COLD WATER AND THEN TURN THE HEAT ON IT IS LESS LIKELY THAT THE TACTICAL FROG JUMPS OUT AND SAVE ITSELF.
AS THERE ARE WAY MORE TACTICAL THINKING PEOPLE THAN STRATEGIC THINKING PEOPLE THAT MAKES IT MORE CHALLENGING FOR A DEMOCRACY TO FUNCTION SUCCESSFULLY OVER THE LONGER TERM. EVEN MORE DIFFICULT IN THE AGE OF SOCIAL MEDIA WHEN STRATEGIC THINKERS ARE INCREASINGLY BEING DROWN OUT BY THE REACTIVE TACTICAL DRIVEN MOB!

When the career politicians signed off on all of those free trade agreements they understood that all of those high paying manufacturing jobs they talk about were now going overseas!
In an effort to mitigate this they “encouraged” the quasi private/government Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to begin to loan money to folks at rates and down payments that were unheard of. No surprise then that this created the housing bubble that in turn would help to create the great recession of 2008. The bankers would take the PR hit for all of this but were rewarded by our POLS with tax payer funded bonuses! Not only should the bankers not have been rewarded but they should not have been bailed out either!
However, Washington would then move to “encourage” another quasi private/government agency the Federal Reserve to create quantitative easing which would once again drive the housing market. This would require the FED to borrow 4 trillion bucks. These irresponsible actions are killing the capitalist horse!
When the housing market crashes again it will be a very long time in coming back to where it was. For example in the Stock Market crash of 1929 it would take until 1956 for stock prices to come back to 1929 levels!

The great comedian Henny Youngman was once asked how his wife was and he replied as compared to what?
Over the last several years how we measure the rates of unemployment and inflation have been changed many times. The net effect has been to reduce these rates so as to mitigate any voter unhappiness with our career politicians!
Every year during this same period the media would also do stories about how our students SAT scores where declining when compared to their parents SAT scores. Eventually the way these tests were scored was changed so that no comparison could be made.

In the 1970’s the USA began to see an explosion in the number of lawyers in this country. Today they barrage TV viewers with negative ads 24/7. It’s gotten so bad you can’t even wipe your own legal butt here without a lawyer Okaying the brand of toilet paper you can use!
For example in the 1970’s we had 600 lawyers at the Pentagon. 25 years later there were 10,000 of them there. Does make you wonder how many lawyers the Russian and Chinese military have to listen to. But hey if the Russian/Chinese military get to the high ground first very likely because our thousands of military lawyers were haggling over which legal I’s and T’s needed to be crossed before we can begin to defend ourselves!

We’ve had two lawyer Presidents who faced impeachment in the last century. Perhaps this should not have been a complete surprise given that one was considered tricky and the other slick by their peers! The Tricky one would be pardoned by another lawyer President, while the Slick one did a super job of convincing the country that it was only about sex and not that it is was about perjury. Willie of course would never have gotten away with his it’s about sex ruse in today’s me too environment. But even worse was one Republican Presidential lawyer pardoning another Republican Presidential lawyer. Sorry folks but Dick really should have done some jail time! Is there any wonder why respect for law and order has declined in the country?

The EU is the USA’s canary! This is because EU debt is higher and the fortunes of their native populations has fallen even further and faster than the native US population has.
For example first there was Brexit which was then followed by Trump. The left and their media allies have been working diligently to reverse both of these votes over the last couple of years. They may well succeed but unless they have a very convincing argument for doing so, the right in the UK and USA may well strap on their yellow jackets in protest! Will see…

All well and good to have 140 nations signing on to a voluntary climate change treaty but when the world’s number one carbon polluter exports coal burning technology to other countries it’s time to try something else! Frankly would rather have 40 countries signing on to a mandatory accord who then impose a carbon tax on the 100 countries who don’t sign on? But will the K cup generation be willing to pay more for their cellphones and video games?

Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon.” The Chinese are using their predatory capitalist tiger to fill their sturdy wagon in any way they can. In the USA we have chosen to milk our capitalist cow dry. The communist Chinese recognize what Churchill understood long ago “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.” In the West the Natives are becoming increasingly miserable!

After the Civil War, southern white male democrats began to practice wide spread voter suppression against black male voters. With the 1960’s civil rights legislation these white democrats would then move on to the Republican Party. Over the same period northern white male democrats controlled the big cities like New York and Chicago where they practiced wide spread voter fraud with their calls to vote early and often! These big city white guys are still democrats and still leading the Democratic Party but what can be seen from the democrat primaries of 2018 is that these white guy days of leading the democrat party are numbered! And rightly so! As for suppression and fraud expect them to be practiced by one or the other party. We need the Freedom card NOW!

Hillary Rodham Clinton was only half correct when she stated that Europe has an immigration problem. The fact is the West has lost complete control over their borders! In the USA this all began with Ronnie Reagan granting amnesty to 3 million people who came to the USA illegally. After that anyone with half a brain understood that it was easier to become a US citizen by illegal means then legal ones! Politically, this is a very difficult problem to solve as the Democrats get 70% of their votes, while the Republicans get 70% of the campaign contributions from the folks who hire them to flip their burgers and mattresses. Sorry but no Trump Tower wall is going to fix this either!

Power corrupts and Absolute Power corrupts absolutely. FDR would allow Unions to monopolize industries. Overtime the UAW would use this absolute power to effectively drive the Big Three into what has now become the Little Three. Yes, the political General Managers of these companies helped to accelerate the decline of the American Auto industry as well but the industry was doomed by the absolute power of a Union monopoly. In the 1960’s JFK would allow government employees to join Unions and we now have a largest Union in the USA doing the very same to our public schools. If you don’t think so then take a look at how the US ranks against the rest of the world in math, science and reading!

The Nobel Prize Winning Economist Milton Friedman considered himself to be a liberal in the classical meaning of the word. He would understand that today’s so called liberal is in reality a Socialist. What then is a conservative? A conservative socialist. For career Politician’s there is little advantage to being label correctly! In fact the so called liberal progressives are actually Marxist. As Shakespeare says a rose by any other name still smells….

They say that the 3rd generation is born with a silver spoon in their mouth. In that case the first generation is the greatest generation, this is the generation that did a great job of killing both Germans and Japanese. They would come home from the war to spawn the 2nd generation currently known as the baby boomer generation. The Boomers gave birth to latch key kids who spent weekends visiting Dad’s house. No wonder then that this 3rd generation has become the Entitled Generation. Entitled to be on the honor roll and with trunk loads of trophies for coming in last place! What will we be calling the 4th generation? The burger and mattress flipper generation!

The world is undergoing another leadership change with power shifting from the West to the East. The better class of people in the West are moving to take control over their governments. The last time this happened you had the better class of the “peace in our time” crowd in UK and the American Firster folks in the USA. Had these two groups moved against Fascism and Herr Hitler sooner perhaps just 6 dead Nazi’s as opposed to 60 million dead. One hopes that the better class does a better job* this time around. As for the worser class they have no one to blame but themselves had they done a better job since the end of WWII maybe we would not have found ourselves in this kind of boat!

Besides building pyramids and piles of debt we are burying ourselves under tons of lawsuits! The fact is we are using the legal system in much the same way the French used the guillotine during their revolution. This isn’t to say that the first 200 Frenchman didn’t have it coming to them, it’s the next 20,000 “off with their heads” that the mob demanded that is more difficult to justify! With the emergence of the social media mob the legal environment in the USA will become increasingly more challenging. It is one thing to drink justice from a glass, something else to drink it from the bottom of the Potomac. Unfortunately as 40% of Congress are lawyers you should expect no help from this quarter anytime soon…

After World War II America’s track record in Asia was extremely problematic. For starters in China, the USA backed the wrong warlord. This would result in our “losing” China, which in turn would provoke our involvement in Korea, ending in a very bloody tie. JFK would then commit the USA to fighting in Vietnam by effectively “green lighting” the assassination of President Diem. Not to be outdone LBJ would then hamstring the military’s ability to fight ending in a humiliating defeat for the US. As China continues to emerge the reunification of its country will become an increasing pinch point for the West. To a lesser extent the reunification of Korea could minimize any potential pinch points in Asia as well.   

 

           

French President Macron is correct that the EU needs their own national military! Unfortunately for Macron the EU is up to their eyeballs in debt and withdrawing from their international military (NATO) would require a nationalistic political will that does not exist. The EU can do one or the other, it can’t do both. Eventually the USA will come to this same conclusion. America can either defend itself in the East or the West but not both. Over time the US will continue to move its increasingly limited military assets to the Pacific. Ironically the sooner the EU embraces military nationalism the safer it will make the world for Democracy!

 

                                             

In the 19^th Century, Europe lead by the British Empire was on first base. In the 20^th Century, America lead by the US was on first base. In the 21st Century, Asia lead by China will be on first base. As the USA moves to second base WHAT kind of global role it plays remains to be seen but one assumes that it will be increasingly a Pacific driven strategy. As for who will be on 3^RD base during the Chinese Century will it be the EU or will it be Russia?

Any future economic collapse in the US will drive the usual guns versus butter political debate. Only this time around we will have a much higher percentage of our population (60%) who will be largely dependent on government largesse. For the military this debate is made even more challenging given its conversion from a citizen soldier to a professional soldier. This disconnection of the armed forces from the vast majority of Americans who did not serve will make it even more likely that any future political decision will favor passing the fat* over passing the ammo!      

*If the voter’s choice comes down to Grandma living on her own (butter) or Grandma living in their basement (guns) then bring on the cholesterol

Western style socialist democracies are using increasing quantities of debt to sustain their citizen’s standard of living. In the USA we are running a huge deficit with Medicare health costs and even the interest payments on our national debt* could outstrip Medicare debt. If the West fails to fix this you should expect a global economic collapse within the next decade. This will be a long term depression as the West will be unable to borrow its way out of it as it did with the Great Recession of 2008. Banks and others that were saved by TARP will fail this time around exacerbating and accelerating this crash. Asia lead by China will then become the Economic world leader and as they say “He who has the gold rules”.  

* The almost 3 trillion dollar Social Security surplus is being applied against the national debt and as that is paid out to retirees our debt will increase accordingly!

Beginning this year, Social Security will pay out more money from their trust fund than they will take in to the fund. Unless things change they will deplete this fund by 2034. What that means for people born after 1968 is that every single dollar YOU have put into Social Security for YOUR retirement will have been given to someone else*. Perhaps another reason why there is a pyramid on the US dollar….
