THE BEST OF TIMES THE WORST OF TIMES

For the USA during the 1960’s it was a very real tale of two countries…
The Vietnam War would prompt the political class to make two mistakes with those of us who were 18 at the time. The first was to lower the drinking age (if you can hold a gun you should be able to hold a beer). This of course would increase the carnage on our highways and would be reversed back to 21. The second has never been fixed and that was reducing the voting age to 18 as well. (If they can send you to war you should have a say in doing so).
The fact is that our kids of today have been so sheltered and protected that they know less about what it takes to survive in this world then the 18 year olds of the 19th and 20th centuries! If we were smart we would re-up the age of majority to 21…

AT THE TIME A REASONABLE COMPROMISE WOULD HAVE BEEN TO ALLOW 18 YEAR OLD SOLDIERS TO VOTE AND DRINK!

NOTE: Freshman Rep. Ayanna Pressley proposed lowering the voting age from 18 to 16, suggesting concerns about “maturity” at that age should not be an issue!
The measure failed Thursday, garnering just 111 votes in the House! AMAZING
