LOST THE WAR BUT WON THE PEACE!

DURING THE CIVIL WAR THE SOUTH HAD EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO END SLAVERY. BUT WITH THE POLITICAL COMPROMISE OF 1877 SOUTHERN WHITE MEN WOULD WIN THE PEACE! IN AN EFFORT TO REINFORCE THIS MESSAGE WAR MEMORIALS SPRUNG UP IN MANY PUBLIC PLACES.
ADDING INSULT TO INJURY THE SOUTHERN WHITE POPULATION IMPOSED JIM CROW DISCRIMINATION AGAINST ITS BLACK CITIZENS. AS A HISTORY BUFF I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THESE WAR MEMORIAL SHOULD BE DESTROYED BUT INSTEAD REMOVED FROM STATE OR LOCAL PUBLIC LANDS.
ON THE OTHER HAND, I DISAGREE WITH THE REMOVAL OF GEORGE WASHINGTON’S NAME PLATE FROM HIS CHURCH PEW, THE PUSH TO RE-NAME FANEUIL HALL, AND THE NAME CHANGE OF (JOHN C.) CALHOUN COLLEGE AT YALE UNIVERSITY.
