“Title IX is the most commonly used name for the federal civil rights law in the United States that was enacted as part (Title IX) of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or any other education program that receives funding from the federal government.” This law greatly expanded access for women’s sports but at that time the US Congress’ assumption was that all women came equipped with a vagina only!
“The Biden administration is rolling out new Title IX rules to expand the meaning of sexual discrimination to include gender identity that would prevent schools and colleges from banning transgender athletes.Under the department’s proposed rule, no school or college that receives federal funding would be allowed to impose a “one-size-fits-all” (penis) policy that categorically bans transgender students from playing on sports teams consistent with their gender identity.”
