As Thomas Jefferson was having sexual intercourse with his wife’s sister, did he ever think that he was actually raping one of his slaves? Even had his wife’s sister consented, as a slave, did she really have any choice but to agree? As he looked at the product of their union did he see sons and daughters or only slaves?
As he looked at himself in the mirror every morning were there any pangs of guilt when he saw Sally and their children? While he promised to free all of his slaves in the end he freed only his sons and daughters. He wanted to to be remembered for writing the Declaration of Independence but not for being a great human. John Adams was his superior in this regard!
