“This morning I came across this NYT article concerning the extreme bottleneck precision ball screw production is causing in the US and worldwide. Evidently they are used in missile production and other key defense applications and can take years to source. A few manufacturers were interviewed and here is a quote of the last line in the article.” Practical Machinist. “He has some steady work that brings in predictable monthly income for his nine-person shop. Under one contract, he sells 60 ball screws a month for roughly $1,000 each. Lately, he has received more calls from defense suppliers.” NY Times.
My first job was working for a UAW screw company which went broke. I then had an interview with another screw company that sold nuts and bolts to the military who ten minutes into the interview asked me if I would play bagman for them! I decided that I had enough of being screwed by screw companies! Frankly not surprised that America can’t defeat a 3rd rate country because we can’t make enough missiles or screws! Let’s hope we don’t have a war against a country that can make a lot of missiles and screws! Screwed and Tattooed!
