President Lincoln in an effort to save democracy in America suspended the right of habeas corpus in Maryland so as to prevent the state from seceding to the confederacy! He also refused to free the slaves in the border states for the very same reason! All of which begs the question of whether or not a future American Leader would be willing or even able of making the same kind of decisions as Honest Abe!
