“In 1951, General Dwight D. Eisenhower stated that if U.S. troops were still stationed in Europe for national defense purposes a decade later, the entire NATO project would be a failure. Serving as the first Supreme Allied Commander Europe, he envisioned the alliance as a temporary bridge to give war-torn European nations time to rebuild their economies and establish self-sufficient military forces. He argued that European allies needed to “stand on their own feet militarily” so American forces could return home.” Google AI. So by 1961.
Ike may have been overly optimistic but let’s say by 1971, or 1981, or 1991, or even by 2001? Pick one only. We are still there in 2026 well beyond the time we should have pulled the plug. Eisenhower did warn about the Military Industrial complex and it looks like he was correct! The Europeans rebuilt their economies some time ago and yet we still have military forces stationed over there! These folks should be reassigned to the Pacific!
And that is all I’m going to say about that!
