I remember when I lived in a large apartment complex surrounding a big swimming pool in the Chicagoland area during the 1980’s. The winters were very cold with record snowfall. During the summer I was surprised by the number of black people who were out and about or swimming in the pool. I recall mentioning this to a neighbor who ran a local grocery store who was not surprised at all because while he could keep black employees who worked in the fruit and vegetable area they would just not stay and work in the freezer area.

Given their African heritage this made some sense and perhaps explains why there are very few black hockey players or Olympic skiers. Could also be that because these sports cost some money this might be a limitation as Basketball, Football and Baseball facilities are everywhere. On the other hand tennis and golf are everywhere to but have few black participants and perhaps again this is a money issue! Too bad!

And that is all I’m going to say about that!
