The fact is that these folks were never completely reformed after the J. Edgar days and that is because Hoover was an abject failure of both Republican and Democrat supervision or lack thereof. Rather than to confront his legacy and take his name off the building all they did was to impose term limits on his successors.
Taking his name off the building would have been equivalent to an admission of guilty by our career Pols who were not willing to go there. Hoover had the goods on some of these folks, and he thought he had the goods on MLK Jr. as well. Unfortunately for the country John Edgar stayed way too long at the party! Any wonder that we continue swirling around the toilet bowl.
