“The pushback continued in 2022, when actor Leguizamo penned an open letter in The Times about the history of Latino representation and the co-option of Latino stories — including that of Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata, who was portrayed by a brown face Marlon Brando in the 1952 film “Viva Zapata!,” and Al Pacino, who played the fictional Cuban character Tony Montana in the 1983 film “Scarface.” LA Times.
John Leguizamo makes perfect sense because now that America is home to millions and millions and millions of legal and illegal Latino’s, Hollywood should be casting more of them in movies although I would say that if they had done that in Viva Zapata or Scarface the box office would have suffered! Making money today is way less important! But watching those movies makes both brown faced Brando and Pacino look kind of ridiculous!
And that is all I’m going to say about that!
