NASA contracted with Boeing and Space X in 2014 to build two dissimilar crew space transportation systems to ferry astronauts to and from the ISS through Public-Private Partnerships. Boeing was awarded $4.2 billion, Space X $2.6 billion. Boeing was the legacy supplier and is now looking to spin off their Space division!
