A spin-off of the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in the late 1980’s, the Islamist militant group Hamas took over the Gaza Strip after defeating its rival political party, Fatah, in elections in 2006. The United States and European Union have designated Hamas a terrorist organization because of its armed resistance against Israel, which has included suicide bombings and rocket attacks.
God awful what they did but as the UN head said you have to put this into some context over the last 54 years! A larger issue is the increasing Arab Shia Islam divide versus the Persian Sunni Islam divide in the Middle East. Even larger still is the US/EU support of Israel versus the Russia/China support of Iran!
And that is all I’m going to say about that!
