The NY Times carried the obit of Isabel Crook whose Canadian born missionary parents raised her in China, where she died recently at 107. She wrote “I regretted the turn from Mao’s strategy to Deng’s. But, if in her vulnerable position China required speedy economic development, for her own security, then Deng’s choice was valid”. She was pro-Mao while her husband had been pro-Stalin.
Horst “Red” Kasner was a German Protestant theologian and father of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He would move the family from West to East Germany after the end of WW 2. She believed that Europe could keep the peace by trading with Putin’s Russia, but Putin was a crooked commie whose only goal was to rebuild the Soviet Union!
